There are many critical issues central to the election this November. I am a firm believer that a person should choose a candidate that best represents their views on the issues, regardless of party. While this approach involves research and time, we will all be better served and elect representatives that stand for our values if we do so. Many thanks to the New Canaan League of Women Voters for posting candidate responses to set questions on their website this year.
There are a number of new candidates to consider. It is important to look at their plans for solving the fiscal crisis and for bringing new revenues and more businesses to Connecticut. Alex Bergstein, the Democratic candidate for our District 36 state senate, has set forth detailed plans to address these issues on her website: alex4statesenate.com. One of Alex’s many sound policy strategies is that where a cut is proposed (ex. lower taxes on all Connecticut families), a well-thought-out solution to offset the revenue loss is offered (ex. shared risk pension reform, tiered highway tolls, public / private financing). These proposals are well researched, thoughtful and fiscally responsible, which greatly increases the probability of success in a currently split state senate.
Alex Bergstein presents common sense solutions for economic growth and for reducing our tax burden without sacrificing shared values such as quality education, public safety, environmental safeguards, and affordable access to healthcare.
