Letter: Beach cleanup tackles trash

Editor, Advertiser:
On Sunday, Nov. 18, Planet New Canaan joined forces with Darien Environmental Group and Surfrider organization to clean Pear Tree Point Beach in Darien.
Three hundred pounds of trash was picked in a single afternoon, including 30 plastic straws, 40 plastic bottles, 12 plastic shopping bags, 200 feet of fishing line and more.
On behalf of Planet New Canaan I would like to express our gratitude to Darien Environmental Group and Surfrider for organizing the event.
A big thank-you to New Canaan High School’s Save Our Seas club whose enthusiasm and work ethic was remarkable. A total of 14 New Canaan High School students braved the wet and cold to clean up the beach.
Also, thank you to our New Canaan adult volunteers who worked just as hard: Margot Bright, Christina Fagerstal, Lynn Canaan, Carl Mason and Arvind Bajaj.
